Issue 377
Ever wonder what happens when the Antique Road Show comes to town. Here’s a
report from Stephen Gleissner curator at the Wichita Museum. Also, about how many
of those decorated rouge flambe exist.
I talked with Tom Dimitroff about the story of their being only two decorated rouge
flambé vases and he is looking into it for source, accuracy, etc. Interestingly, ours and
Corning’s differ in shape and color of the Aurene decoration around the top (ours is
blue, CMOG’s is gold). Yet the design of the decoration is the same, and neither
shape is recorded in the Carder line drawings.
The Roadshow producers will arrive this afternoon and most of the appraisers fly in
tomorrow. It will be so much fun spending the long weekend with them. Tomorrow I’m
taking a large group of the appraisers to Wichita’s beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright house,
then to a fine private collection of American and Asian art, then to dinner at my place.
Friday morning a slightly smaller group of us will visit the glass collection of your
friends Ernie and Karin Rieger. The “event” itself is Saturday, and filming at the Art Museum will be from 2.30 until 6.30. I wish you could be here to share in the fun.
All the best Alan,
Steve
