Welcoming

Dear friends at the Carder Steuben Club,

I want to thank-you for welcoming me, and hosting my Cire Perdue demo at the symposium. I very much enjoyed the time spent with you all. It was interesting re-creating Carder’s process. I learned a lot during my research and I find myself even more inspired by Carder’s work. I enjoyed all of the informative programs, delicious meals and lovely hotel accommodations. I especially enjoyed the friendly atmosphere created by the club members, which is so warm and welcoming. I hope to see you all next year. Until then I wish you all the best of great Carder finds!

Dedication Ceremony

FREDERICK CARDER DAY IN CORNING

Wednesday, September 18, 2013, the 150th anniversary of Frederick Carder’s birth was proclaimed as Frederick Carder Day in the City of Corning. Mayor Richard Negri read a proclamation at the celebration marking the installation of the Carder Window in its new home at Corning City Hall. The Carder Window has been installed in a custom-built and lighted case that faces the street, so that the Window is always visible.

In his remarks the Mayor acknowledged the Club’s contribution to the Window. Tom Dimitroff discussed the history of the Window and I discussed the Club’s willingness to assist in other Carder-related projects in Corning.

Erata

In Friday’s Gazette (#1826) I said the text of MJ Madigan’s book was updated to to cover the year 2002, to celebrate 100 years of Steuben in 1983. That should have been in 2003, not 1983.

2014 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY September 19 and 20, 2014. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 151st birthday celebration on the evening of Thursday, September 18, 2014.
