Only Six Weeks

The Symposium is less than 6 weeks away! We have added more activities and special programs this year to celebrate Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday. If you have not yet made plans to attend, you should! Why miss a chance to meet Max Erlacher, master engraver for Steuben, and see his workshop? Max and his wife Kitty will host a luncheon at their home and a tour of Max’s studio. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Remember – registration deadline is September 9.

All details can be found in the links at the bottom of this page.

Voting

1. Do the bylaws allow for proxy votes? I believe that Lisa Ackerman, from Southern California, will be attending the Symposium. If you do not allow proxys and restrict voting to only those present at the Symposium, you are discriminating against collectors and members of the group that live 3,000 miles from Corning. If Lisa could vote our proxies–or someone else who is going–at least we would be represented.

2. The Bylaws, a copy of which are available on the Club’s website, limit voting to members who are present at the Annual Meeting. There is no provision for proxy voting. This is common for many membership organizations like the Club.

The Board has considered changing this but has rejected it at this time. It is possible that the issue may be raised at this year’s Annual Meeting.

3. Many of our members also collect Post-Carder glass. Our symposia have many presentations that are of interest to the Post-Carder people as well. Anyone can join our club upon payment of the modest annual dues. The proposed changes are sadly lacking in specifics about additional duties and who will do them. I intend to vote to keep things as they are for now.
