Scott Hansen is Chairman of this year’s Carder Steuben Club Symposium. Plans are well underway. Scott was recently asked for a copy of this year’s Symposium. It will be a couple of weeks before that is ready. However, here is his response to that individual and some of the background for your planning purposes.
My goal is to have everything finalized by the end of this month so I can mail the Symposium program and registration materials the second week of July. This is the same schedule I have followed the past three years. I also intend to make a second mailing of the materials in mid-August.
We have already announced a couple of Symposium events that have the most potential to affect travel plans. On Thursday afternoon, September 15 we will again have a Volunteer Work Session at the Rakow Library as we did last year. That session was very well received and we had a number of requests to repeat it. Following the Rakow session, we will again host a small glass show at the Radisson in Corning early Thursday evening very similar to the one we hosted last year although we are currently working with the hotel to have a more substantial food offering. The room this year will be three times the size of last year’s room with dedicated tables for eating and socializing. The glass show itself will be essentially the same as last year.
The formal programming will be held Friday and most of Saturday at the Corning Museum. We may stop mid-afternoon Saturday to allow time for visiting the Museum and shopping. Saturday night we will hold our closing banquet and glass auction as we have always done.
This year’s Symposium concludes the day before Frederick Carder’s birthday (Sunday, September 18). With Tom Dimitroff’s permission, we announced in the Gazette that Tom will be hosting his annual Carder Birthday Dinner at the Corning Country Club Sunday evening. Tom and his wife, Peetie, host that dinner independently of the Club but have indicated they will be inviting all those attending the Symposium to attend the Birthday dinner if they wish to stay over another night. A separate invitation to that event with all of the details and charges will be mailed by Tom and Peetie.
Hope this helps.
Scott
PS The Radisson has a fairly liberal cancellation policy (I think it might be no more than 24 hours before expected arrival) so I would advise booking a room at the Symposium block rates now.
