Symposium is Almost Here

The annual Carder Steuben Glass Association will kick off this week!  We have a fantastic program of speakers and activities, and look forward to seeing everyone in person.

We also have another great line up of auction items this year.  Thank you so much to all donors and consignors for your generous support.  Our auction slate is now closed, so if you were still hoping to contribute to the auction please keep us in mind for next year or bring your item to put on the member sale table.  See you all soon and safe travels! — Karen Beeman

Here are some more beautiful items that will be a part of the auction.

REMEMBRANCES OF ED BUSH

Ed will be missed dearly.  We had some really interesting talks.  His knowledge of ceramic helped others understand Carder’s ideas.  We had wonderful conversations about his collection.  He loved to search and find as many shapes and colors as possible.  I really miss that time. Many didn’t know that he was a rattlesnake enthusiast. He helped with the counting of them at their safety nesting ground and also when new ones were brought in.  The timber rattlers are protected in this area.  — Beth Shaut

Chris and I were new Steuben collectors when we came to the “Friends of Carder” Symposium in 2003.  That year Ed Bush was one of the featured presenters and brought an extensive collection of Steuben goblets.  At the time it was the greatest collection of Steuben glass we had ever seen, outside of the Rockwell Museum.  I still remember staring with awe at the variety of colors and shapes, and how fabulous it was to be able to see the glass up close and to touch it.  I wish I had more photos of the people who were at the event; unfortunately, we don’t.  Apparently we were too mesmerized by the glass.  — Cheryl Dartt
