Symposium

Jan 3, 2007
Issue 219

Yesterday we reported that for this year’s Symposium (Sept. 13-15) the theme
will be metal and glass. Last evening I sent out a reference to the upcoming
Fontaine Auction and included a reference to a piece. The picture showed the
Blue Aurene with number 2837 and another marking.
I received thanks for pointing out this beautiful torchiere. I also received the
following from Marshall Ketchum.
But Steuben shape 2837 is a vase and it entirely
different. One has to wonder if this is some other glass with a forged Steuben signature. There is also a little symbol as part of the signature that I have never seen before.
Sounds like controversy to me. Don’t you just love collecting? The Symposium
should pose a great deal of fun. Trying to identify whether the glass in that
metal holder is Carder’s work.

Now, take a look at http://www.fontaineauction.com/cgi-bin/viewlot.pl?
sale=70121&lot=110 from Fontaines.

In this and several following e-mails we’ll share pictures of Steuben found at the Miami National Antiques Show now going on through tomorrow Jan. 7 adjacent to the Miami Merchandise Mart.
Note, pictures are taken of shelves with Steuben, and, of course, other glass will show.
The first few pictures are various booths. Then a picture of Danny Gipson, a dealer from Kansas City, MO and some pictures from his cabinets. Here and there some are blurry pictures. The problem of a quick point and shoot.
