Art Glass Companies
The primary focus of our Symposium each year is the glass of Frederick Carder. Our Symposium this year (September 14-16 in Corning, New York) is no exception. But, each year we also try to have a presentation on other glass companies that were competitors or contemporaries of Steuben Glass Works. In the past we have had presentations on Tiffany, Durand, Hawkes, Union, Duncan & Miller, Pairpoint, DeVilbiss, Modern Steuben, Modern Studio Glass and Quezal.
Our presenter on the Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company was Malcolm MacNeil, VP/Director 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts and Furniture at Doyle Auctions. Malcolm has written articles on Durand and Tiffany as part of Doyle’s collection of Featured Stories and his profile also contains an article on Steuben by Leigh Kendrick. They can be found here: http://doyle.com/specialists/malcolm-macneil
This year’s Symposium will also feature a presentation on another glass company that was a contemporary and competitor of Steuben but we will hold the identity of that company for now to build a little suspense for the Symposium.

Another Glass Cleaning Thought
I wouldn’t suggest using anything abrasive, such as silver polish. I use Woolite and a soft sponge. to clean cut glass and porcelain. I used it on aurene and favrille glass, and it does an excellent job. Jan Baer
