I would like to suggest the following for the party that posed the question about reference books:

In the category of General American Glass History, I would like to suggest American Bottles & Flasks and Their Ancestry, by Helen McKearin and Kenneth M. Wilson (1978). Although a must have reference for the serious bottle collector, this book also contains an incredible amount of information about the history of the glasshouses that made not only bottles, but also many other items, as well as the tools and techniques employed.

Good luck with your endeavor,

For Durand, the very best book is Durand The Man and His Glass by Edward Meschi, The Glass Press Inc., 1998.

I would always suggest Grover’s Art Glass Nouveau for any serious glass collector of Carders period of activity. It is a great general book with some stunning examples and for the most part beautifully photographed when it comes to color reproduction.
