An Explanation
On March 13 of this year David Chadwick-Brown hosted a glass club in his condominium to share his magnificent Carder Steuben collection. I took pictures of most of his collection. The pictures on my I-phone are of varying qualities, and many times without opening the glass cabinet doors since I didn’t feel comfortable doing so. Whenever we’ve had space in the Gazette we’ve shared these pictures. Also, David has added his personal comments on his collection. So much time has passed since we’ve begun showing these pictures, and we have quite a number yet to go, that while this was in part explained at the front end, I thought another detailed explanation would be helpful.
The plate on the left (back) is Strawberry Mansion pattern; lack of space was my constraint in that purchase from Bob Rockwell. The cluthra blue to white hex bowl from him also, and was prized for the Carder signature. The ivory, three prong vase (back left) was purchased from a relative of Joe Sporer – perhaps a niece, with the accompanying legend: “Ivory Steuben Glass, Tour de Force Executed by Joe Sporer to show his ability as a gaffer at Corning N.Y.”
Strawberry Mansion
Since the pattern of the Strawberry Mansion on the plate in the above picture doesn’t show well, below is a picture of a vase from the Club website. www.cardersteubenclub.org Sorry, no plate is shown.
