Birthday Time for Frederick Carder–b. 9/18/1863

Blue Cut to Clear Design for a Champagne,

Photo above and article below from CMoG’s Facebook page Friday, 9/18/20

English designer and glassmaker Frederick Carder was born on this day in 1863. Carder moved to Corning, NY in 1903 to help found Steuben Glass, where he designed tableware and architectural glass for both Steuben and other firms. According to legend, Carder was particular about his designs, not allowing deviations to his work and specifying which gaffers he wanted to work on his projects.

Alan:

What a cheerful way to start the day, Friday! I googled the photo, wondering if there was a date attached to cataloging of the photo, and it is estimated to have been shot in the 1930s. Other readers might be interested in that detail.
