At the Corning Museum of Glass

The Corning Museum of Glass (“CMoG”) is the setting for our Symposium this fall (September 20-22). It’s a great facility for our meeting but we always make sure to leave ample time for exploring the Museum. In addition to the permanent collection, there are four on-going exhibitions to visit. The Rakow Research Library has their own exhibition covering the famous Corning Flood of 1972. This past June was the 40th anniversary of the flood.

There are three other exhibitions worth seeing. First, is Making Ideas: Experiments in Design at GlassLab. This is an exhibition of 150 design objects produced at GlassLab, the Museum’s signature design program, by 50 separate designers. Two other exhibitions are devoted to contemporary glass. The first is Master of Studio Glass: Erwin Eisch and the second is Founders of American Studio Glass: Harvey K. Littleton and Dominick Labino. More information about all of these exhibitions can be found at www.cmog.org.

Friday night, September 21 is Family Night at CMoG. The Museum is open until 8:00 p.m. Admission is free (although all members of the Club are also members of the Museum so they get free admission all the time – bring your membership card) and there are special activities and entertainment scheduled throughout the evening. No Symposium activities are scheduled for Friday evening.
