Edna Schulogoj of Pittsburgh sends along these pictures for identification along with her thanks for the input thus far.
Edna also sends along this story on signatures
Hi All,
I set up at a show here locally in Pittsburgh and had primarily art glass Bohemian and Steuben, as well as some crystal Steuben there. A couple came and remarked on one of my George Thompson Steuben vases. They told me that when they married back in the 50’s they received a Steuben bowl as a wedding present. When they examined it they couldn’t find a signature and so since the piece was purchased locally here in Pittsburgh at Kaufmann’s department store they took it back there and told customer service that they wanted a piece with a signature. Kaufmann’s said “No problem”. They had an engraving department and they signed the piece “Steuben” for them.
After telling me this story they said “Knowing what we know now, we guess that Kaufmann’s probably shouldn’t have done that.”.
That is the first time that I have ever heard of department stores doing something like that. I found the story very interesting.

Then Dick Stark of Potomac, Maryland sends along his opinion on Edna’s piece (without seeing the inside)
That definitely is an Aurene shade….may have bit of silver residue on interior of mounting aperture
Charles Sweigart of Reinholds, Pennsylvania responds to Sam Kissee’s observation about the proliferation of Steuben animals.
Sam,
People are what is added, and people bought all of the Steuben production. Not all Carder designed products were winners either, but they are not excluded from the archives as at some point in time they may be deemed useful to someone. Closed mind positions have resulted in the loss of many fine clubs and organizations. Only when the club becomes too large to handle should exclusion be an option. I suspect it’s size currently has not reached that magnitude.
Then, lastly from Bonnie Salzman of Richmond, Virginia commentary on the inquiry about markings on Lenox patterns.
Alan,
This is in reply to Scott Hansen’s question about Lenox patterns and the backstamp. Replacements,Ltd. located in Greensboro, NC has hundreds of thousands of patterns of china, crystal and silver patterns (among other things), some of which can be viewed online.
Go to www.replacements.com
They also have AMAZING pattern people that you can call (I would recommend this to Scott) that can likely help with the backstamp question and can probably give him some very good information on that.

I do apologize. I think I had an additional e-mail on the Lenox patterns and one on the issue of expanding the Club’s mission to modern Steuben that may have gotten lost in a bevy of e-mails over the last several days. If I have, please resend.
