Yesterday John Styler reported he bought a piece bearing the supposed signature of FCarder and containing a shape number. He asked whether it was the real deal. My rule of thumb is when thing other than Blue or Gold Aurene are marked with a fdl or signature I am at first wary until clearly the piece proves it is the real deal. Just too many forgeries out there. We had many responses and here they are.

Frank Ford says:

John’s vase is Bohemian made by Kralik c. 1900.

Marshall Ketchum report

I tried to tell the ebay seller of John’s new piece that the glass wasn’t made by Steuben and the signature was a forgery. The seller wasn’t interested.

Dean Beeman of Media, Pennsylvania opines

The piece below has all the features of a 20’s Czech vase/bow.

Sam Kissee of Chico, California writes

The piece is Bohemian/Czech and is typical of Art Glass made at the turn of the cnetury.

This website gives you a great deal of information about the glass from that era. http://www.loetz.com/

Richard Grove of San Mateo, California continues

This piece is Bohemian and probably Wilhelm Kralik. Regards Richard

Then take a look at this. Bob Bjork adds to the discussion

The piece that John Styler asked about is not Steuben. It is English. The exact piece is pictured in Cyril Manley’s book entitled “Decorative Victorian Glass”, Page 54 #18. He suggests that the piece is Richardson.

Whatever. We finish up with a capitulating John Styler

Alan, at 80 I’m still a novice or just plain dumb!

I appreciate the input received on this piece I

WON, thank heavens for the EBay buyer protection

plan. I am surprised the seller didn’t post the question

raised by Marshall. Lord knows she may have had

numerous such doubts.

It’s on it’s way back to the seller.
