Michael Krumme of Los Angeles sends this along
Hi Alan,
I have a friend who has been visiting from out of town for a few days. Besides doing some antiquing, we went to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) to see several of the exhibitions yesterday. One of them, California Design 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way, was of particular interest.
The highlight of the show is a recreation of the living room of the home of Ray and Charles Eames, prominent industrial designers, which is in Pacific Palisades, California. The home is being renovated, so an agreement was reached to display all of the items in the room at LACMA, in a nearly identical reproduction of their setting. Though one cannot go “in” the recreated house, there are lots of windows to look through. Naturally, right away I spotted the piece of Carder Steuben glass: a small bud vase in Rosaline with Alabaster foot. (I also spotted a Heisey glass candleholder a few feet away.)
Always Steuben-hunting!
Michael
