With Regard to New Bus Service from NYC to Corning

Thank you, Jenny Monroe. Friends from Rochester and Buffalo insisted many times it couldn’t be done. On the agenda, 2015. All the best,
Beth Jacques,

BUT IS IT SIGNED?

As a collector-dealer I am often asked if a piece is signed. We all know that some types of Carder Steuben are (almost) always, signed, some are never signed and some may or may not be. The answer with respect to the Shape 5002 Bowl in the Chinese pattern is both yes and no.

I have probably had a half-dozen of these over the years in Rosaline, Green Jade and Blue Jade, all over Alabaster ACB’s and none of them have what we would consider a “normal” cut-back Steuben signature. However, (Lawyers always have to have a “however”), the pattern itself includes a stylized, intertwined “FC” monogram.

If you look at the following picture of Jade to Alabaster example that is in the Shape Gallery, right below the border, in the center of the picture, is the top of an “F” and below that is the top of a “C” that is also serves as the middle of the “F”. Look closely and you will see the overlapping “F” and “C”. If you think that happened by chance I have a bridge to sell you.

Which brings me back to my original question, which was, is it signed?

David Goldstein

PS- The same Chinese pattern FC monogram also appears in the line drawing for the 2028 Plate, a 3103 Bowl and a 5004 Vase in the Shape Gallery.
