Jo Ann Godawa of Bellevue, Nebraska passes along some history and for many, some familiar names.
Many moons ago, I was doing a Jack Webb Show at the Merchandise Mart in Kansas City where a dealer had a perfectly matched set of 12 “Rouge Flambe`” 12 inch Dinner Plates for sale for a ridiculously low price of $300.00 each.
From all I had learned, through many conversations with Eric Erickson, Bob Rockwell, Ray Grover,Bob Koch, Joe Allison, Walter Nagorski, Donna Fisher, Joan Miller, Charlie Lotton, Opal Sallee, and other top dealers back then, this simply would not be possible, a perfectly matched set!
I suggested that he contact Bob and Beth, in Corning, for authentication. The next time I saw one of them was in the Corning Museum and in Bob’s Shop. The dealer told me that he had sold them to Bob, who later told me that they were absolutely right.
To this day, I do not think it possible to make this set in Rouge Flambe’ as Frederick Carder himself said that he could not get the color consistent and this fragile glass “flew” in the kiln.
Perhaps Rouge Flamme, as a different technique, would explain this.
