SYMPOSIUM REMINDERS AND INFORMATION FROM SCOTT HANSEN
We are just about a month away from the Symposium so here are some reminders and information that might be helpful.
First, the block of discounted rooms at the Radisson will be released to the hotel on September 1 if they have not all been reserved. This year’s room rate is $34 per night less expensive than last year (not competing for rooms with the Corning Marathon is the reason). The block of discounted rooms at the Comfort Inn will be available until the start of the Symposium unless they are all reserved before then.
Second, the registration fee for the Symposium increases on September 10. Get your registrations in before then to avoid the increase.
Third, in 2009 about a dozen people attended the Symposium for the first time. So far, 5 of them have registered for this year’s Symposium. We also already have 5 first time registrations for 2010.
Fourth, approximately 15 items have already been committed to the Saturday night auction following the banquet. This auction is the major fund raising event for the club. If you intend to consign an item to the auction, please send the information to Marshall Ketchum (mdketchum@yahoo.com) as soon as possible so that it can be included in the auction catalog. Marshall needs the information (not necessarily the item) prior to the start of the Symposium. Also, remember that only checks or cash can be used to pay for auction items – no credit cards.
Fifth, don’t forget to bring your CMoG membership card with you to the Symposium. It will facilitate access to the Museum and allow you to receive your 15% member’s discount in the CMoG Glass Market.
Sixth, I have received a couple of inquiries about dress for the Symposium. Casual attire is fine for the daytime sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Saturday night banquet is semi-formal – jackets and ties for men and complementary evening attire for women.
Finally, for those with long term planning horizons, the 2011 Symposium will be held in Corning on September 15, 16 and 17, 2011.
