I hope that you all were able to enjoy all aspects of the Carder Steuben Symposium last weekend, and if you were not, you are taking advantage of the recordings.

The Late Charles Lotton

Mourning the Loss of a Contemporary Glass Icon

Charles Lotton

The contemporary glass world has lost an icon , Charles G. Lotton, age 85, passed away recently. Mr. Lotton participated in the Carder Steuben Symposium in 2018, where he and master glass engraver Max Erlacher shared stories of their friendship and their collaboration on many projects over the years.

Mr. Lotton shared photos and stories of his previous profession as a hair stylist and salon owner before he started blowing glass more than 50 years ago. But it was pictures of his innovative glass designs that captured the audience attention, as well as the many stories that he and Mr. Erlacher told.

Attendees will not forget the very special opportunity to meet Mr. Lotton during a reception in his honor, as well as a number of his family members – including son David and grandson Robert , glassblowers in their own right. This special treat included many pieces on display and for sale. We are lucky to have had this opportunity.

Our sympathies to Mr. Lotton’s family.
