Continuing our sharing of photos and stories from this year’s Symposium that was held September 8-10 in Corning, New York…

IN MEMORIUM

Prior to this year’s event we hadn’t been able to get together in person since 2019.  In that time we’ve sadly lost some of the people whom we’ve come to know through the Symposiums, through our conversations in the Gazette, and our shared interest in glass.  When we gathered together this year we took a moment to pay tribute to our lost friends.

Though glass is the subject that initially brought us to the club, it’s the personal connections that sustain.  At the Symposium we shared a video presentation to commemorate the lives our departed glass family members, to celebrate our friendship, and to say “hello” one more time.  If you would like to view the video you can watch it on our website here.

THE LAST RIVAL: DURAND ART GLASS — BY GAY TAYLOR

Gay LeCleire Taylor gave attendees a well-researched and fact-filled presentation on Durand Art Glass, a division of Vineland Flint Glass Works located in Vineland, NJ. Gay identified a number of competitors with and contemporaries to Carder Steuben, including Victor Durand’s art glass.  Gay showed several side-by-side comparisons of Durand and Steuben designs, as well as discussed many lesser known Durand cut glass and other types of glass.  We all learned something from this very educational and visually stunning presentation.
