Issue 1648
Redlands Museum
Joann Tortoralo sends this identification request along:
OK, Alan here is Steuben piece No. 1 from the Historical Glass Museum. We have struggled with the photography of our glass for at least three years and there is always some problem. I put up gray sheets as a background to this piece because it is sitting in a cabinet where it is surrounded by mirrors. If I do not do that, then there is too much of a reflection from the mirrors and other glass. I also had my flash off and the cabinet doors open in order to reduce the reflection. You can see the piece but there is not a true representation of the color.
The description that is on the display label and on the inventory is: Compote; Five Applied Turquoise Prunts and Shaped Knob. The glass is described as amber but it is a very light amber. The measurement given is 11″.
It would be great to have some assistance in writing an accurate description of this piece with line number, color, and dates produced.
Response to Redlands Historical Glass Museum for identification by Marshall Ketchum
This is shape 3348 and is shown as a compote in Gardner and was available both with and without a cover. From the second photo the color appears to be Amber with Celeste Blue decoration. The color may be Topaz but it is difficult to tell from the photo. We have several examples of this shape on the website.
