This is HGM Steuben No 10. As you can see on the picture attached, the label says that it is a Steuben acid-cut rose vase (no height given.) Again, I did some research on the Carder Steuben website and I think it is shape #2687 (bowl not vase) in plum jade with murillo acid etching.

I will have to get the measurements the next time I go to the museum.

I agree that this is Steuben shape 2687 in Plum Jade and etched in Murillo pattern. Shape 2687 was one of the most popular of the Steuben shapes based on the number we now see. It was made in a wide variety of colors and finishes. It was made in all interger sizes from 4″ to 10″ inclusive plus 12″, 14″, 16″ and 18″. Plum Jade was usually made in three layers with a amethyst layer on both the inside and outside. It was sometimes made in two layers with the inside layer omitted so the inside was white glass. It isn’t clear how this one was made and it really doesn’t make any difference to the piece.

I agree. More properly Plum Jade ACB to Alabaster, Double Etched.
This piece is double etched. And it is also over Alabaster. When we say double etched we mean it has been sent through the process again and the alabaster has a pattern cut in it also. Joann here is a piece of Plum Jade not over Alabaster. Randy Bly

Next piece for identification

I believe that this candlestick is Steuben pattern #2956 in Topaz or Amber with rim of foot in turquoise (yes, there is that pesky color again) or green. It is 10″ and unmarked.

This is a 2956 in Topaz with probably Celeste Blue decoration. You can probably tell best if it is Turquoise. Steuben’s Turquoise is semi-opaque and certainly wouldn’t be considered a transparent glass.

A modification has been made to the website that allows a user to search for pieces that were finished by other manufacturers such as Hawkes, Alvin or some of the lamp manufactures.

Up until now we have not had a way to search for pieces that were finished by others on the website. There is a Description section on the database where this information was entered but that section was not searchable. A recent change has included that section in a keyword search. As an example, enter hawkes in the top box on the Search Gallery page and press Search. The result will be nearly 30 items that were engraved by Hawkes on Steuben blanks.

Now that the Description section can be searched its use can be expanded to include firms such as lamp manufacturers.

Celadon (Shape 6427)

I am very surprised the appraiser got this one right. This is the piece that got me started on these piece’s colors and I sent Joann the confirmation. I have seen
appraisers also get Celadon right in the same fashion long before we as Steuben collectors get it! Smoke Crystal or Smoked Crystal with French Blue. Most properly the latter, as shown in line drawings.Rande Bly
