Don’t Lose Sight of the Fact That Carder Steuben’s Output Included Cut Glass

Rakow Research Library staff are eager to welcome our American Cut Glass Association friends to the 2017 Convention in Corning, NY.

Of the extensive resources offered at the Rakow some of the most interesting and unique are our numerous cut glass archival collections. Most of you know of the extensive T.G. Hawkes and Company Records, the Bill and Louise Boggess Collection, and the Dorflinger & Sons Collection, but other archives may not be as familiar. For instance, the Laurinda Freitas Cut Glass Pattern Collection, received in 2014, contains patterns from Freitas’ home shop, many including handwritten notes and instructions for the apprentice cutters she instructed. Or, consider exploring the design drawings and documents in the Frank Gottfried Collection, engraver for T.G. Hawkes from 1910 until 1914.

There are also the H.P. Sinclaire & Company Design Drawings, the Dorothy Daniels Research Collection on cut glass, and the J. Hoare & Co. Scrapbook Collection, among many more.

If you aren’t able to visit the library personally, please take advantage of our remote research capabilities. Our catalog is accessible anytime from any computer, and you are welcome to call or email the Rakow reference staff anytime from 9AM , 5PM any day of the week to answer questions and help guide you in your research. We look forward to seeing you in Corning!
