IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY
There is still time to sign up for the 2014 Symposium, but it’s never too early to begin thinking about the 2015 Symposium. One reason to consider coming is an exhibition that will be on display at that time at the Rakow Research Library entitled America’s Favorite Dish: Celebrating A Century of Pyrex. That exhibition will run from June 6, 2015 to March 17, 2016. Follow this link for information on Frederick Carder’s connection to Pyrex.

p. 10 Amethyst – Steuben
This is a Steuben rich purple, colored crystal that is scare. A variety of decorative and functional objects were made, including wine glasses, candlesticks, dessert bowls, luncheon services and compotes. Some pieces are found signed with the acid-etched Steuben Fleur-de-Lis. Many objects are ribbed, have folded rims, or large disk bases. It is not uncommon to find copper wheel engraved initials or florals on examples. This glass possesses a bell-like tonal quality when tapped and pontils are ground and polished. The color is uniform throughout its varying thicknesses. Some Amethyst pieces have chemical residue within or on the surface of the crystal. This glass apparently was difficult to produce.
