Norman Skolnick of Toronto, Canada supplies more information on means of book publishing:

Just to throw more fuel to the fire of self-publishing here are some other names that might be considered that I understand might be less expensive. They are Lulu, CreateSpace and one owned by Amazon whose name is escaping me. We better see this book published now that we have all these options! Ha ha

Michael Krumme of Los Angeles asks the following question about the shades shown at the Wichita Museum:

Hi All,

You really grabbed my attention with the photo of the two shades in G.G. #1356. I keep staring and staring at them, trying to figure out how the threaded decoration was applied and manipulated. I understand the “pulled feather” technique, but I was trying to figure out how the threading that loops at a roughly 45 degree angle works to create the illusion of a loose spiral. The best I can deduce is that it was threaded horizontally around the shade, and then again at a different angle (which seems much more difficult!) before the hook or other tool was used to pull the threading to create the 8 vertical “ribs”.

Am I “warm” or “cold” on this analysis??

Always wanting to learn,

Michael

Then, Michael Krumme also adds this additional piece on the closing of the Steuben factory:

Here is a link to the CBS Sunday Morning show about the closing of the Steuben factory. It has some great historical images, views of post-1933 Steuben glass, and a tantalizing glimpse of some Frederick Carder-era Steuben wares. Thought you might enjoy seeing it.
