Club director Vivienne Richards of Port Perry, Ontario Canada sends along this link to search the 1901 UK Census files on Mr. Carder.
Enter Frederick Carder and go to page 2 where you will see him as 37 years old, glass designer of Kingswinford Parish. You can also enter Annie Carder who I imagine is the 37 year old also from Kingswinford Parish.

You can get more information on all family members in the household and view the original census documents, if you pay the fee, about $10. I have not done this myself, but you might want to pay some club money to find out more.

It is a little curiosity that might turn up something new. This is the link

Then Club Vice President Scott Hansen of Briarcliff Manor, NY sends along this item on the debate of whether glass melts.
For those who what to pursue the concept of the nature of glass, I recommend the article (link attached) which appeared this summer in the New York Times Science Section. The notion of whether glass is a liquid or solid still isn’t settled. High School chemistry or physics probably isn’t necessary and you don’t have to worry about color while reading the article.
