Steuben Glass, known for making decorative crystal, has closed its doors after 108 years in business.

The final item comes from Charles Sweigart of Reinhold, Pennsylvania on photographing colored glass.

A note to Rande about photos of colored glass;

Not a criticism, a helpful thought. Taking images of green glass with a colored backdrop does not show the true colors, regardless of the viewers monitor settings.

When possible use a pure white backdrop. White printer paper will work great even if you have to tape several pieces together to get bigger size. Best results occur when the backdrop is washed with light that does not hit the object being photographed. Light on the object, if needed, should be a soft source like a bulb behind a translucent screen to avoid harsh reflection. Good results can be achieved with even point and shoot cameras when using this method.

A YouTube video showing how to achieve a lighted background is below. The black cards will not be used when trying to shoot colored glass as they affect color too much. The simple setup with readily available materials should be of use to many of the readers shooting glass objects.
