Symposium Notes
Each year the Club asks attendees of the Symposium to provide suggestions for future programs. Over the last several years, we have received many requests for someone to talk about what options a collector has when the time comes to dispose of it. Sam Cottone, of Cottone Auctions in Geneseo, New York, has agreed to come and discuss how an auction house may help find a solution to this problem. Sam will also touch on inventory and appraisal as well. Sam has experience as an antiques dealer and furniture restorer, and for the past 30 years has been an antiques auctioneer and appraiser. We look forward to hearing Sam’s comments on “Selling at Auction in Today’s Marketplace” at the Carder Steuben Symposium, September 15- 17.
Can Someone Help With Identification?
Hi Alan,
A friend owns this DeVilbiss perfume lamp and there is some question about the glass shade. The lamp is from 1928/29, model PL 2501. Although this lamp is known to have the H.C. Fry Co. foval glass shade enameled in rose on the interior this shade seems to be a fine non-enameled glass shade. Does anyone know if this shade could be Steuben? The shade is 5 1/2″ high. Any information would be appreciated.

Auction Notes
Hello fellow members and hopefully attendees to this year’s Symposium,
Today there is one month to the cutoff date for your thoughtful consideration for this year’s Carder Steuben dinner auction. We already have had pieces donated and consigned for this year’s auction, and it looks as if there will be something for everyone once again to spark your interest. I have rescinded my original thought process and have offered to Chair the dinner auction through the 2017 Symposium. Taking over the auction from Marshall Ketchum in 2013 was indeed quite a daunting task for me, and huge shoes to fill, and I hope I have done a good job in your opinion. I have greatly appreciated all of your kind participation over the past years during my tenure as the Auction Chair, and I look forward to hearing from you folks who appreciate the importance for the continued sustained viability of our Club, as this is a fundraising event. I humbly ask you to check your collections, look in your cupboards, closets, or attics, and see if you have one piece which you would generously consider placing in our auction, either donated or consigned. The deadline for submittal is September 7, 2016, and I ask that you do your best to meet the deadline if you choose to participate, as it makes my life a whole lot easier in order to complete the catalogue on time for the Symposium. Thank you, and I hope to see you at this year’s Symposium!
Regards,
Mark Chamovitz
