We recently learned the sad news that CSGA member Mark Chamovitz passed away on November 23, 2023. Mark was a long-time member of the club who also served as a Director and managed the annual auction for many years.  He was very passionate about collecting glass and sharing his opinions. He was a friend of Max and Kitty Erlacher and commissioned several engraved pieces from Max, which Mark dearly prized.

Mark was also an avid contemporary glass collector. He was always advocating for contemporary artists to present at Symposiums, interested in how Carder’s work influenced or intersected with their work. One example was Charles Lotton’s Mandarin Yellow and Red glass.

Many of our current members knew Mark and greatly appreciated his friendship. We invite you all to share your thoughts and memories with Mark’s family here, or pass along stories and photos to the Gazette at gazette@steubenglass.org.

Here are some photos of Mark from past Symposiums, and a few pieces of the glass that he loved so much.
