4.
To my dear friends at the Carder Steuben Club,

Thank- you so very much for the wonderful newsletter showing and telling about the “Outstretched Hand of Liberty”. It means a lot to all of us that worked on it. It was a labor of love. Max Erlacher’s talents made the story come alive through engraving. Through Frederick Carder, we all bring our talents to Corning. Thank- you for reaching out and sharing something that follows the great tradition of hot and engraved glass.

All the best,

Your Friend, Debbie Tarsitano, Westford, MA

5. Right now it is packed in storage. I own it. Last year the work was exhibited at the Sandwich Glass Museum in Sandwich, Massachusetts. It has been shown in my own museum exhibitions.

Best, Deb

1. TO WILLSON & SUSAN CRAIGIE, I JUST SAW YOUR ARTICLE ON MR. FREDERICK CARDER AND HIS STEUBEN GLASS. I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS OF CARDER SINCE 1994 . WE HAVE MET, BUT I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU WITH ALL THE SILVERED GLASS FROM YOUR TABLE. OVER ALL THE YEARS I HAVE COLLECTED CARDER STEUBEN ALMOST EVERYONE WOULD SAY THAT THERE WERE ONE MAYBE 5 DIFFERENT PIECES THAT CARDER HAD SILVERED OVER THE YEARS.

SO MY QUESTION TO YOU BOTH IN THE PICTURES HOW MANY OF THE PIECES THAT ARE SILVERED ARE STEUBEN BLANKS? A LOT OF THE PIECES THAT ARE SILVERED I HAVE SEEN I THOUGHT WERE STEUBEN BUT WOULD BE TOLD THAR THEY WERE MADE BY OTHERS. I KNEW THAT ALL OF US CAN LEARN AND THAT IS ALL I AM WANTING TO TOO. SOME OF THE PIECES ARE BEATUIFUL AND I PASSED THEM UP CAUSE I HAD BEEN TOLD THEY WERE BLANKS FROM OTHER COMPANIES OF THAT TIME.

WHO EVER MADE THE PIECES ,THEY ARE GREAT LOOKING PIECES,

BOB MUELLER, MINNEAPOLIS

2. Dear Bob – Most all of the pieces we brought up to Corning were definitely made by Steuben Glass (glass portion). We haven’t counted it up but would have to guess we have over 35 Steuben glass pieces with Sterling Deposit overlay. Frederick Carder was very close to folks at the Alvin Silver Co. from 1903 going forward.

LaPierre, Matthews and others applied Sterling patterns to Carder’s glass as well. (Our presentation covered only the years of heavy sterling deposit…… ending roughly 1911.

Thank you for asking.
