Issue 2882
from Bob Weinberg
Based on my collection, one should note that Loetz also supplied various glass items for this process to Alvin; I suppose a number of companies did. The Loetz glass I have is easy to identify but I suppose some pieces and colors could be confused. A number of Loetz pieces have silver overlay or deposit which are not marked Alvin but look like their work so either some went unmarked or others did the work. All are marked sterling which I believe identifies them as being made in America. Since shapes are similar I have seen a number of pieces in blues and greens which look like Carder but not able to verify. Finally Hawkes provided glass (decanters and shakers are those I have seen) with silver overlay, some marked Tiffany on the silver with Hawkes on the glass, some marked Hawkes on the glass and silver, all marked sterling but at least one is not. Somebody cheated Hawkes. Regards
