Oriental Poppy
A wide range of iridescent glassware was produced at Steuben in addition to the ever popular Aurenes. Two of these are Oriental Poppy and Oriental Jade. This technique has sixteen alternating vertical stripes of opalescent and either pink ( Oriental Poppy), green (Oriental Jade), or third very hard to find color, amethyst (Oriental Orchid).
An unusual Oriental Poppy variant is shown third picture down. The applied green band and rim as well as the absence of any iridescence make this piece quite unusual. This technique was extended to table service where Mr. Carder threw a few more twists into the mix. Stemware, plates and sherbets were most commonly not iridized and the stripes would frequently spiral around the piece as opposed to the vertical stripes shown here.
