ONE STEP AT A TIME

Issue 1795

I have seen nowhere in these discussions as to how many members there are in the modern Steuben group or what their dues are per annum. Why not take one step at a time and find these questions out. When we apply this and additional information to trying and figure out what these additional dues will cover in all the things that have to be changed there may be glaring issues. If there is a huge shortage of needed revenues and we don’t wish to have substantially increased dues from what we currently are paying the matter may just solve itself without all the debate that is going on.

A Special Celebration

The past few weeks of discussion about our Club have been stimulating and fascinating–BUT, let’s not lose sight of the fact that we have a special celebration almost upon us AND our wonderful 2013 Symposium fast approaching!

We have at least 150 good reasons to be in Corning next month. We don’t want to miss celebrating the Sesquicentennial of the birth of Frederick Carder, the actual birthday party and the Symposium that will continue the celebration. Vice President and Program Chair, Bonnie Salzman, our Board of Directors, CMoG staff and program presenters have planned terrific opportunities for us:

1) to know Frederick Carder in England–after all, he had a successful career there before he ever set foot in Corning!

2) to know something of Frederick Carder the man and his life; his civic involvement and influence beyond his studio and factory;

3) to appreciate beautiful glass of whatever era–and the artists who create it and embellish it– this includes the incomparable CMoG collection; and

4) to socialize, learn from each other–and have a whole lot of fun!

Folks, all roads lead to Corning in September. Let’s meet there and celebrate!

This is 2718 which is shown as a compote in Gardner’s book. The color is probably Marina but it is sometimes difficult to tell from only a photo. The shape is more often seen in Gold Calcite.

2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
