First of we got the following on the next generation of collectors from Keith Trippi of Grand Island, New York
Apparently CMOG has figured out who the next generation of Carder Steuben collectors is…children. The following link is to an activity sheet for “glass kids” visiting the Carder gallery in Building-B at the museum:

I especially like the area that says, “Frederick Carder visited museum and drew his favorite objects. Draw your favorite objects here…” in a series of four multi-color squares. So I sharpened my crayons and drew stump vases. 🙂
Then, Steven Skalsky of Chandler, Arizona helps out with his technical knowledge.
I created a pdf of the Hawkes power point, that might make it easier for those who do not have office power point 2007 to read. (see attachment)
Hope you all have a great time at the symposium. Wish I was there, maybe next year.
We started out with Keith Trippi talking about new collectors. Now Avril Kalinich reminisces about some of the collectors from the past. Avril is the widow ( I hope I have that right) of former Corning Museum photographer, John Kalinich. They knew all the past luminaries.
Hi, Alan: The exciting time of the 2010 Carder Steuben Symposium is about to begin, and I am writing to congratulate Scott Hansen and all else who helped to arrange such a full, interesting, informative and entertaining schedule for the momentous 3 days ahead!
Carol and I are very disappointed to be missing such an exciting time….but perhaps next year. I have true feelings of sorrow at the recent passing of people who have had the privilege of knowing Frederick Carder in person; Bob Rockwell and Tom Buechner particularly. Of course there are others who were my friends and who knew Mr. Carder. These include, most importantly Paul Gardner, Harrison Hood , who was recalled by Dave Williams in Gazelle Gazette #771, George Thompson, for many years a designer of Steuben crystal.
Mr. Thompson’s talent appears to have been overshadowed by the reputation of Sidney Waugh.
Then there is innovative photographer of glass, John Kalinich, and Mrs. Edwin H. Guyer, wife of a CGW scientist, who wrote under the pen name Valentine Van Tassel. One of her series of articles is titled “Frederick Carder’s Aurene Artware.
Personal recollections of F.C. are important contributions to a TRUE history of the man. but most importantly is the preservation of the recognition of his artistic genius. Your work, Alan, as producer of the Gazelle Gazette is sincerely appreciated for dissemination of important information about the talented Frederick Carder. Carol and I send our very best wishes for an outstandingly successful Symposium. We wish we were there! With kindest regards, Avril Kalinich
