John Law
Alan, About 1953, my in laws who lived in Hamilton, Ontario visited a friend who was a bricklayer from Stelco Steel Company who was working in Corning. The bricklayer had an acquaintance in Corning by the name of John Law. He was the head butler at a home called The Knoll. My in laws say that the Knoll was the private residence of the Houston’s. As a token of their visit, John Law gave this paperweight to them. It is 2.5″ by 2.5″. The pontil is not polished. I am guessing that this is an employee after hours piece. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Fact of the Day
Carder would say ” Stick the pot with a withy pole” They would use a willow pole fresh cut 2 inches in diameter and about 4 feet long to poke into the molten pot and as the gasses were released it would make the bubbles for his bubbly glass. Gardner page 70
