The following article appeared in this last month’s issue of the International Perfume Bottle Quarterly
Museum of American Glass:
Archivist Helen Farnsworth reports that this museum is located in the small town of Weston, West Virginia, and has 11,000 objects on display in well-lit glass cases. Volunteers are happy to remove any object for the visitor to handle. The cases are divided into the many and various West Virginia glass companies. There is a massive research library with a unique feature. Volunteers have assembled extensive reprints that have all references to the various companies — for example, a great color book for Steuben with ads and a reprint of a catalog. These booklets range from $8 to $14. The museum has the ability to mail any of these catalog reprints. They also have a bibliography of their magazine called “All About Glass” online and copies of each issue can also be ordered.
The emphasis is on the work of each company and thus perfume bottles are not co-located. They do indeed have few perfume bottles, but the ones there are choice. Just as an example, the Carder Steuben club has donated items to the museum to display. It is educational to be able to handle a verre de soir perfume from Steuben.
They also have a great museum shop — when was the last time you went to a museum and were able to buy items that are vintage and collectible from their shop?
Wouldn’t it be great if the IPBA could put together perfume bottles to donate to celebrate our 25th anniversary?

Gerry Eggert responds to the discussion about moving furniture
Alan,
A good mover would have been able to protect the Chair. Going cheap is not the best way with anything. The old expression is “Going first class costs 10% more, but you get 50% more in value.” That is true for glass as well as life, I have found!!
