Following up from Tommy Dreiling’s discourse on the Portland Vase we have two comments. First, from John Styler of Prospect Heights, Illinois
Thanks Charles, the link to the British Museums restoration of the Portland Vase was most interesting.
As I had previously said, what Museum wouldn’t display a great piece even if it was repaired or for that matter the damage / imperfection or manufacturers flaw was not visible on display.

I’m not sure that a comparison of a piece of calcite with the Portland vase is really a good one !
These flowers sent from Scott Coots of Rochester, NY came a bit late for Mothers Day, but better late than never.
I know that you don’t really approve of my utilitarian use of Carder’s art. But… would you rather see these pink roses thrown in this vase or properly arranged in a florist’s vase.
