More On The Color Grenadine

Issue 2668

I have to share my one grenadine piece with the group. After reading the excerpt from the Gardner book that gold ruby was used as a thin casing over clear crystal or alabaster I checked the inside neck of this perfume where it was ground to receive the stopper and it does look like the glass was clear. Thank you for the new information!

1920’s Steuben Ad

Rande Bly sends along this original ad for Grenadine from House Beautiful Magazine from June 1926 reads: “It may be had in single pieces , or in entire sets-such as this of Crystal and rose hued Grenadine”.

Rande adds, Gold Ruby can come in many shades of pink, cranberry, to a deep red as more gold is added. It can reach a deep rose red nearly the shade of Selenium Red and has been mistaken as such by authors, dealers, and collectors alike.

The Steuben names it has are Old Rose, Pale Rose and Blue, Grenadine, Rose, and of course Gold Ruby.
