Dean Sharing his Joy on Facebook

Hi Alan,

Dean’s Pillar Bowl is very beautiful. The shape is #3080 and was made in many colors and at least 2 sizes. We have a Green Jade, Gold Aurene Calcite and an Aqua Marine one. The Atomic Cloud description came from Eric Ericson’s book description. Funny idea as the Atomic bomb hadn’t been thought of in the Carder era of Steuben.

Want to share a photo of my latest piece of Steuben. It’s a centerpiece bowl in Bristol Yellow & is approximately 90 to 100 years old. I always wanted one of these & was so fortunate to acquire this. It is all hand made…from the glass batch ingredients to the blowing & finishing of the piece. Suitable for a museum or a fine personal collection.

Thanks, Scott Hansen, for the NYT article. The “journal of record” isn’t what it was, either. Until it breaks, glass is living history. Rgds.

Alan –

This link is from last week’s New York Times. Perhaps it is something for the Gazette despite it’s disheartening subject matter. The last portion of the article deals with the upcoming auction of the contents of the Fenton company museum, following the closing of the Fenton manufacturing facility several years ago. I thought it a somewhat rough characterization of all the glass collectors groups devoted to “defunct glass makers.” Too bad Steuben didn’t even make the list.
