MORE ON STEUBEN IDENTIFICATION

Issue 1661

This is HGM Steuben No 14. It is an intriguing piece. The museum inventory–skimpy as it is–says that it is a Steuben vase. The label on the vase says it is Loetz. The description is 9 3/4″ vase with air bubble pattern. Could this be another Fry–or is it actually Steuben–or another manufacturer all together?

Marshall Ketchum opines:

I wouldn’t want to guess who made it but it almost certainly wasn’t Steuben.

Next Up for Joann

This is HGM Steuben No 15. It is another intriguing piece. The label on the piece states that it is an 8″ Steuben vase with wide mouth waisted base and is marked on the underside Steuben. Note the dark blue decoration that wraps around the glass.

Not Steuben but other than that I have no clue.

LOETZ IDENTIFICATION

Kathleen Herdell of St. Helena, California provides this Loetz identification advice:

To determine if it is Loetz, Joann can send a picture to the Neue Galerie in New York that published the definitive Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940 book with a DVD of pattern drawings.
