I find it especially interesting that pieces of glass were sometimes given the same designation by a glass maker as was used by other glass makers, but for different types of glass. We recently had a similar discussion as it relates to peachblow.

David Chadwick-Brown showed a lovely example of Carder alexandrite (above), and there are several more in the shape gallery. They are all blue over rosa. But collectors of English glass associate alexandrite with a transparent glass produced by Thomas Webb and Sons in the late 1800’s. This glass is shaded from a deep blue to pink to pale amber. The small plate and wine glass are examples of Webb alexandrite.
