Beth Jacques of Brooklyn adds to the Thomas Buechner discussion.

Hi Alan — I suppose lots of people know this, but Thomas Buechner was also an expert in museum exhibit design, and he headed up the Brooklyn Museum (now BMA) for a number of years. His son, Thomas Buechner III, blew a series of goblets with Lino Tagliapietra in the 1980s. The son, Thomas Buechner III, also worked with Vitrix in Corning at that time. His work is in the Museum of Art and Design, NYC, and was exhibited at the High Museum, Atlanta. You find signed vases and, with Tagliapietra, signed and dated goblets from time to time.
Rgds,
Beth Jacques

Then Lisa Ackerman of Orange, California tells us her experience with Mr. Buechner

Thank you Alan for further informing the subject of Thomas Buechner! Yes, there was certainly a bigger link than I thought, and that is why I love being a part of this Carder Steuben community.

He was a very kind man when I met him. He came into the dining room at the Radisson in Corning wearing a wool cap and had dinner with a longtime friend. As these gentlemen were of mature years, the conversation naturally centered on health and have you seen so-and-so lately. As they were leaving, he noticed me reading (alone) my book on the museum and I told him it was my first time there. Then he revealed his ties to the museum and was as down to earth as you can imagine. What a privilege it was to meet him. 🙂 Lisa
