The Current State of the Steuben Business
Steven Bender, New Business Development Manager with the Corning Museum of Glass, will be speaking at the Symposium on “The Current State of the Steuben Business.” Steve has been involved with Steuben for the last 15 years. He has managed Steuben’s eCommerce sales division, developing the sales channel into a major revenue generator for Steuben. During the Schottenstein era, Steve took on additional duties and responsibilities with the company. When the business closed in 2011, he was hired by Corning Incorporated to represent its interests in the liquidation process and to assist in the transfer of intellectual property back to Corning. He has since been hired by CMOG to manage new business development and also oversee their eCommerce activities.
Steve will review what has occurred since Steuben closed in 2011. His presentation will go into detail about the brand name, intellectual property, access to manufacture and sale of both new and previous Steuben designs.
Friday, Beth Shaut answered a question about the Knoll. The Knoll was the home of the Houghton family of Corning Glass Works, and Mrs. Houghton lived there to over 100yrs of age. The Banquet room was used in the 1990’s for Corporate function and fund raisers. Today you are able to reserve it for public functions, such as wedding, fund raising dinner, etc.
Neal O’Donnell of Corning, NY adds more background on The Knoll and the Houghtons.
Beth – Mrs. Houghton did indeed live to a great age but the last few years of her life were spent in a beautiful but considerably smaller house atop Spencer Hill that was originally built for her sister-in-law back in the 1950s or 60s. Mrs. Houghton and her husband bought the house in the early (I believe) 80s and moved out of the Knoll.
