Post-Carder Steuben
Dr. Cohn’s recent submission to the Gazette has provided an opportunity to review what has been accomplished with respect to the subject of Post-Carder Steuben in the two months since the Symposium.
First, with the gracious cooperation and permission of two of our members, we published a picture of a unique, monumental commissioned piece of Post-Carder Steuben by Steuben designer Joel Smith. An accompanying article described the piece and its meaning.
Second, as part of an effort that stretches back more than a year, we were able to publish information on Post-Carder Steuben signatures since 1929. That information is now also a permanent part of the Club website in the Signatures tab. It also includes information on the signature characteristics during the period following the sale of Steuben and prior to its closing.
Third, we published information regarding the reintroduction of Steuben branded products in 2014 as well some current thoughts on the signatures for those newly produced products.
Finally, we have added to the website a new section on shapes designed by Carder that continued to be produced in the Post-Carder period.
As for equal treatment of the Post-Carder era with the Carder era in the Gazette, our Editor has correctly pointed out that will be completely dependent on the almost 400 recipients of the Gazette. The Gazette receives all of its inquiries and content from its readers. Without their active participation in this subject, there can be no content.
The Club will continue to look for ways to cover Post-Carder Steuben through the Gazette, the website and the Symposium. Suggestions are always welcome and can be sent to Alan Shovers through the Gazette (ashovers@kddk.com) or to me directly (HNGSEH@aol.com).
