In our last Gazette we reported on the theme of our next Symposium. Shared Desires: A Unity
of Glass and Metal.

To my surprise, this evening I picked up Fontaine’s Auction Gallery’s “Exceptional Antique
Auction” catalogue, with auction scheduled for Jan. 19-21. There, as item #272 was none
other than an Oscar Bach Torchiere with a Steuben Aurene Globe. A stunning example of the
unity of glass and metal. http://www.fontaineauction.com/cgi-bin/viewlot.pl?

weekend this coming Sept. 13-15 in Corning.

Marie McKee, president of Steuben Glass reports in her newsletter of Dec. 28 on their
activities. This includes their plans of selling Carder’s “vintage” glass at their Madison Avenue store. This September, Steuben Glass introduced the Vintage Steuben Collection, offering rarely available examples of pre-1933 colored art glass and tableware designed by Steuben founder Frederick Carder. This can only bring growing attention to artistry of the most prolific and adventurous glass artist, Frederick Carder.
