Luscious Perfume Bottles

A week ago the International Perfume Bottle Association held its annual convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Reston, Virginia. The highlight of that meeting was a presentation by Bonnie Salzman of Richmond, Virginia on Carder Steuben perfume bottles. And, what a powerful presentation it was. Bonnie prepared a superb talk; sadly we can’t replay it since it would be enjoyed by all, and educational to all. Bonnie, obviously did her homework. She began with a strong historical background on Mr. Carder and the founding and development of the Steuben Glass Works. This included a pictorial of bottles from the Stevens and Williams period. Next, came some description of glassmaking techniques. A true prepatory course for those in attendance, most of whom knew little of the breadth of Steuben perfumes. Bonnie did some outstanding homework at the Rakow library and it certainly spoke for itself. She then did a pictorial on bottles from her collection and other collections. We’re fortunate that Bonnie is sharing images of some of her bottles with us. See the following link.

(be certain to look at p. 2, as well)

Bonnie told us that her entire family are Steuben collectors. Likewise, Bonnie has roots going back to the Fingerlakes area of New York State. Bonnie, we thank you for sharing your marvelous collection with us. What a feast for the eyes
