QUESTION OF THE DAY
An auction house told me that they have their “own inventory”, presumably meaning they own the goods. Where did they get this inventory? Are they bidding in their own auctions (against me) to acquire it? Should I care that an auction house is selling their own inventory rather than selling pieces on behalf of consignors? Is there a disclosure obligation when an auction house is selling their own inventory? Anonymous

This is another example of a Stevens & Williams piece. The top of the finial is probably ground flat which is characteristic.
