Hand Wringing

from Beth Jacques of Brooklyn

Thank you, Elizabeth Creech, for your terrific post. After considerable thought (and hand-wringing) I have come to the conclusion that dispersal of collections by a local auction house in toto is the most satisfactory way to go. Similar to that watch advertisement, I want to think I’ve just been privileged to look after a few things for a while. Now someone else who likes them will. Trust the siblings with my cat or my Carder Steuben? Never!! rgds, Beth Jacques

Parting With Your Collection

from Bob Mueller of Minneapolis

DEAR FRANK &ELIZABETH,

THIS IS BOB MUELLER FROM THE TWIN CITIES ,AND THE BOTH OF YOU HELPED ME WITH MY BOOK ON MR. CARDER A FEW YEARS BACK.I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR COLLECTION AND PARTING WITH IT. PART OF MY COLLECTION I HAVE SOLD FOR MY BOOK.

IT WAS ALWAYS NICE TO TALK WITH THE BOTH OF YOU AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHERS STORIES OF THEIR NEWLY ADDITIONS TOO THE COLLECTIONS. I FEEL WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.WHEN I HAD TO DISPOSE OF MY MOTHER’S STEUBEN GLASS COLLECTION THERE WERE SOME PIECES I WANTED TO KEEP BUT IT WAS HER WISHES BECAUSE OF OTHER CHILDREN FOR ME TO SEND THEM TOO AUCTION.

I HOPE TO MAKE IT OUT TO THE SEMINAR THIS FALL AND HOPE TO SEE YOU. GOOD WISHES FOR THE BOTH OF YOU AND ENJOY EVERYTHING AROUND YOU.

Repurposing

from Lisa Ackerman of Orange, CA

Hello Alan,

Recently I purchased several pieces of Amethyst over Colorless Thistle pieces and this one was severely damaged. Before I throw it away, (which I can barely bring myself to do!) I was wondering if any Gazetters know of someone who could repurpose this? Thank you! :)).
