IT’S A BIRTHDAY–A BIG BIRTHDAY

Thinking about attending the Symposium this year? No? Well think again. This year celebrates Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday, so we’re having a Sesquicentennial Celebration! The festivities start with the Carder Birthday Banquet starring Tom Dimitroff as speaker on Wednesday, September 18. Thursday afternoon will be spent at the Kitty and Max Erlacher compound, followed by dinner and the Glass Show that evening. A wide range of programs to interest both Carder and Modern Steuben collectors have been planned for Friday and Saturday, with a banquet and auction Saturday night.

So Come Join Us! Make your travel plans now to attend. Blocks of rooms are held at the Radisson and the Comfort Inn. You won’t want to miss it!

GIFTED PRESENTERS ELIZABETH & FRANK CREECH FEATURED

Featured in this month’s Journal of the American Cut Glass Association publication, The Hobstar, were the Creechs of Brevard, North Carolina. The Creechs delivered a stunning and memorable perfume bottle presentation featuring Carder Steuben glass at a prior Club Symposium.

The Hobstar reports you couldn’t hear a pin drop during their presentation to this cut glass chapter meeting.

Next up for the Creechs is a presentation “Glass: Miracle Born of Fire” at the International Perfume Bottle Association Convention (May 1-5) in Las Vegas.

Sometimes we forget that Mr. Carder designed an enormous array of colored glass perfume bottles, cut and engraved glass bottles and scent bottles sold to other manufacturers, such as DeVilbis, Mignon and Hawkes.

2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
