What a neat piece!
I am reminded of one of the Seminars on Glass I attended some years ago. We “Seminarians” were invited over to the Studio and watched as I believe it was William Gudenrath created a large pedestal bowl using this technique. Took a lot of helpers! 🙂

We have the basket in Pamona Green without its clear insert but have had it complete in the past. We saw one years ago in an auction with the insert in another lot from the basket. we call them to tell them and the said well if you want it you will have to bid on both lots. Some of the unusual auctioneers out there.

This is a shape 644 basket with a Gold Ruby liner. It is difficult to find this basket with a liner since the liner has often been lost over the years.

“While referred to as lattice work, woven or basket weave, this effect requires no weaving of the glass canes. Rather, it is built up in layers by zig zagging the canes and attaching each new layer to the apex points of the previous layer. This may have been done around a metal or wooden form to provide shape. Whether around a form or freehand, this was a difficult thing to do while working with molten glass without having the final form collapse or sag. This basket came with a separate clear glass liner that slipped inside and could hold water.”
