I have questions about this lamp base? Steuben? Color? Finish? Shape No.? Thanks,
David H. Spear, Bay City, Michigan
The color of this lamp looks like Carder’s Plum Jade. However, this also appears to be more transparent. Plum Jade is usually three layers, with the middle layer alabaster. Can anyone help answer David Spear’s question?

Scott Hansen of Briarcliff Manor, New York sends along this information on the open or closed flower stopper. Click on the image and see the factory records showing both an open or closed flower.
“I was helping Marshall Ketchum with some shape research a couple of months ago and we both stumbled across something we didn’t know. Carder designed two forms of these flower stoppers – one is with the leaves curled up like a closed bud and the other is with the leaves laid out more flat like the bud is open. It turns out there is some indication in the factory records that the two forms of stoppers were designated for specific shape numbers – no switching allowed”.
AN ICE BUCKET OR WHAT?
Barbara Iglewski of Canadaguia, New York asks the question whether this piece is an ice bucket, or something else.

MORE COMMENTARY
The past several days’ Gazettes have raised questions about whether this piece with controlled bubbles is Carder Steuben or something else.
Beth Shaut of the Carder Steuben Glass Shop of Corning adds her comments:
“This blue bowl could be Pairpoint or Fry as both did this type of controlled bubble. The shape of the bubble don’t look quite like Stueben’s controlled bubble”
